Graduate Program

Welcome to Stony Brook University’s Athletic Training Program! Our athletic training program has successfully transitioned to a professional master’s degree program. The initial graduate cohort entered in the summer of 2019. Students who complete the requirements for the Master of Science degree in the Athletic Training program will be eligible to take the Board of Certification (BOC) Exam. We are no longer accepting admission into the undergraduate program. The final baccalaureate degree in athletic training cohort will graduate in 2020.

We are currently accepting applications for the next Master of Science cohort. Given the evolving nature of COVID-19 we have extended the ATCAS verified application deadline to April 15th; classes begin in summer 2020

The athletic training program at Stony Brook has a 35 year history. The internship program began in the 1980’s and developed into a baccalaureate major in the early 2000’s. The first Master of Science degree will be awarded in the spring 2021. With over 250 graduates employed in various levels of patient care we are excited to begin a new chapter of our program’s history as we complete the process of “teaching out” our extremely successful undergraduate program by spring of 2020.  We look forward to continuing to prepare students for a future in athletic training at the graduate level.
