The Sherrie Glasser Mayrsohn, Metro Scholarships
The Sherrie Glasser Mayrsohn, Metro Scholarship were created by Michael Mayrsohn who is a member of Stony Brook’s Physical Therapy Class of 2012. The scholarships are in honor of Michael’s mother, Sherrie Glasser Mayrsohn. Michael and Sherrie are both Owners and Directors of Metro Physical and Aquatic Therapy. As of 2021, Metro Physical and Aquatic Therapy has 15 locations across Long Island and has expanded their practice to include Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology and Mental Health services.
Sherrie Glasser Mayrsohn, PT, MS, is widely known across her profession as being an expect in orthopedic, sports and geriatric physical therapy. Sherrie received her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy at Stony Brook University in 1977 and went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Orthopedic Physical Therapy at the Institute of Graduate Health Sciences in Atlanta, Georgia. Sherrie is an active member of ASSET (American Society for Shoulder & Elbow Therapists) and AIPT (American Independent Physical Therapy), the American Physical Therapy Association and the Northeast Women’s Health Student Group. Sherrie has a great passion for working with the geriatric population, incorporating senior wellness, golf fitness and fall prevention.
Because of the Mayrsohn family’s exceptional affinity to Stony Brook, they have decided to establish named scholarships to support deserving students in the Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-language Pathology programs.
Award Amount
Up to $10,000 per year in scholarship support to a Physical Therapy student.
Up to $10,000 per year in scholarship support to an Occupational Therapy student.
Up to $5,000 per year in scholarship support to a Speech-language Pathology student.

Henry and Marsha Laufer Scholarship
Drs. Henry and Marsha Laufer are two former Stony Brook University distinguished faculty from the Department of Mathematics and the (former) School of Allied Health Professions who have provided generous philanthropy, leadership, and commitment to many people and campus organizations for over 40 years. The Henry and Marsha Laufer Scholarship is awarded to full-time matriculated students in degree-granting programs in the School of Health Professions to support tuition, books, fees, and room and board.
Award Amount
$500 to $5,000 in scholarship (varies by program)
Eligibility Criteria
Students who are eligible to apply for and receive scholarships must meet the following criteria:
A. Be enrolled full-time in a degree-granting program in the School of Health Professions as defined by Stony Brook policy.
B. Demonstrate good academic achievement as defined by Stony Brook policy.
C. Preference given to students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services based upon completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
i. For graduate students who receive other donor-funded scholarships or other institutional support (such as tuition waivers), this may be used to Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services, so long as it does not exceed the recipient(s) total cost of attendance.
ii. Undergraduate students participating in the New York State’s Excelsior Scholarship are not eligible for tuition support. For students participating in New York State’s Excelsior Scholarship, the scholarship is solely and exclusively for non-tuition expenses as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.
iii. Non-tuition expenses typically include room and board, insurance, student fees, travel, books and supplies, personal expenses or other common non-tuition expenses as determined by Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.
D. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate leadership in the healthcare field. Examples include, but are not limited to a student’s participation in research, professional development, volunteering efforts, civic engagements, or other activities that demonstrate leadership in healthcare. Students who are recipients of awards or distinctions may also be considered as leaders in healthcare.

The Carlos Vidal Memorial Scholarship
A two-time Stony Brook alumnus, Dr. Carlos Vidal was deeply committed to his alma mater. He earned his bachelor’s degree in social welfare in 1976 and his Master of Social Work from Stony Brook University. He received his Doctor of Social Work and PhD degrees from the Graduate School of Social Services at Fordham University, specializing in child welfare research.
Dr. Vidal first joined the Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare faculty in 1978, and rose through the academic ranks of the School, eventually entering the dean’s office as Associate Dean for External Affairs and Development. He then moved to the School of Health Professions as Associate Dean for Community Engagement and Development, and then as Associate Dean of Operations.
Dr. Vidal also held a faculty appointment as Associate Professor in the Department of Africana Studies and was an Affiliate Associate Professor in the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Center at Stony Brook University. In January 2018, Dr. Vidal stepped forward as Interim Dean of the School of Health Professions following Dr. Craig Lehman’s transition out of the office.

Eligibility Criteria
The Carlos Vidal Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one undergraduate student for the 2023-2024 academic year. Students who are eligible to apply for and receive the scholarship must meet the following criteria:
A. Be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student in the School of Health Professions as defined by Stony Brook University;
B. Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services;
C. Preference will be given to applicants who participate in campus activities or student groups or otherwise demonstrate a commitment to the campus community as self-reported and documented during the application process;
D. Students participating in the New York State Excelsior Scholarship are not eligible for tuition support. For students participating in New York State’s Excelsior Scholarship, the Carlos Vidal Memorial Scholarship is solely and exclusively for non-tuition expenses as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services (non-tuition expenses typically include room and board, insurance, student fees, travel, books and supplies, personal expenses or other common non-tuition expenses as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services).

The Exxat Student Scholarship for 2024-2025 academic year is now open.

Daughters of the American Revolution
Each year the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of higher education in diverse areas of study including history, economics, law, political science, medicine, nursing, occupational and physical therapy, elementary and secondary education, chemistry, math, science and English.
DAR’s scholarships are awarded and judged without regard to gender, race, color, religion, national origin, or disability.
- Applicants must be citizens of the United States.
- Applicants must attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States.
- All multi-year scholarships, typically renewable up to four years, must be for consecutive years of attendance.
- Awards are based on academic excellence, commitment to the field of study, and/or financial need, or other restrictions on specific scholarships.
- Awards are placed on deposit with the recipient’s college or university and any unused portion shall be returned to the DAR.
- Applicants are only eligible to receive one scholarship from the DAR.

Western Psychological Services (WPS) introduces Neurodiversity and Student Diversity Scholarships, enhancing behavioral health education access. Aligned with WPS's CSR Mission, these scholarships foster community engagement, partnerships, diversity, and environmental responsibility. Your assistance in promoting this scholarship on your website is greatly appreciated.
The Neurodiversity Scholarship, offering a $2,500 award, targets students with identified neurodivergence like autism or ADHD. Eligibility mandates enrollment in accredited US universities, pursuing careers such as clinicians, educators, psychologists, therapists, or administrators.
The Student Diversity Scholarship provides a $2,500 grant to students contributing unique insights on race, gender, religion, and disability. Eligible candidates must be current students of accredited two-year or four-year American universities aspiring to enter behavioral health professions.

UUP opens 2024 scholarship application process
SUNY students are invited to apply for annual scholarships of $3,000 offered by United University Professions, the union that represents academic and professional faculty at the State University of New York.
The deadline to apply for the UUP College Scholarship Fund Undergraduate Scholarship application is March 1, 2024. Applications are on UUP’s website, at https://uupinfo.org/awards/.
The UUP College Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to a maximum of four SUNY undergraduates who excel academically and are dedicated to the goals and ideals of the labor movement. Applicants must be full-time students enrolled at SUNY state-operated schools and have a minimum grade point average of 3.75.
Full-time graduate SUNY students can apply for UUP’s William Scheuerman Post Baccalaureate Scholarship. The scholarship is named in honor of former UUP President William Scheuerman.
To apply, students must have at least 9 credits and hold a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.95. Applicants must show dedication to the labor movement’s goals and ideals.
Applicants for both scholarships must demonstrate personal and academic achievement and display a strong record of community service. UUP awards the scholarships to students on a one-time basis, but there is no limit on the number of times a student may apply. The scholarships are funded by contributions from UUP members and their families.

UUP accepting applications for Steve Street Award scholarship
SUNY students are invited to apply for UUP’s Steve Street Award.
The scholarship application deadline for the Steve Street Award is May 1, 2024. An application for the award is on UUP’s website, at https://uupinfo.org/awards/.
The Steve Street Award is a one-time $500 scholarship given to an undergraduate student or group of undergraduate students enrolled at a SUNY campus who have created any paper or documented any project related to social justice issues or topics. This scholarship is available to full-time and part-time students.
The award is named for Street, a UUP contingent faculty member who taught at SUNY Brockport and SUNY Buffalo State College; he died of cancer in 2012.

Military Medical Program
The Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) and the Health Services Collegiate Program (HSCP), both of which offer significant financial support to students pursuing degrees in the medical field. The HPSP pays 100% of tuition, fees, and equipment, and provides a monthly stipend of $2600 and a $20,000 sign-on bonus.
Additionally, The HSCP offers up to $198,000 in financial support, including a monthly military salary equal to E-6 pay, a generous housing allowance, and a comprehensive healthcare benefits package.

Dick Hannah Dealership Scholarship
Dick Hannah Dealership is pleased to announce its college scholarship program that will award two $1,000 scholarships per year to eligible students. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must have a high school transcript, be US citizens, and be high school seniors. This scholarship can be used at any accredited four-year college or university for tuition, books, and supplies. The Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship
The Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship from Check City is pleased to announce a $2,000 scholarship essay contest for college students. This scholarship contest is named after Richard Rawle, the father of Check City CEO Tracy Rawle. The Rawle family believes that education is essential for a community to thrive, and with this scholarship, students can finance their education and contribute to society. The applicants must currently be enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year university or college in the United States with a minimum of 2.5 GPA. Hillel International Scholarships
Hillel International scholarships are open to students who identify as Jewish, in the U.S. and Canada, who are attending or preparing to attend four-year colleges and universities or graduate school.
Lilly E. Reiser Graduate Student Award: The Lilly E. Reiser Graduate Student Award is given annually to a Jewish student who will be attending graduate school in the U.S. in the upcoming school year and who has demonstrated academic excellence and made a difference in their community. Applicants must have completed or be on track to complete their undergraduate degree by June 30, 2024, and be attending graduate school in the fall of 2024. Applicants must self-identify as Jewish. Jules and Gwen Knapp First-Generation Student Award: Jules and Gwen Knapp believed deeply in the power of higher education to transform the lives of individuals and families. Top applicants will have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and a demonstrated impact of leadership, entrepreneurship, and/or volunteerism in their local or campus community.
