Freshman Declared

Stony Brook freshmen have the opportunity to declare Polysomnographic Technology as a lower division major by making an appointment with the Program Director. Freshmen accepted into the lower division major must complete all prerequisites with a grade of C or better by the end of the sophomore year, pass HAT 210 - Introduction to Respiratory Care with a grade of B or better, and achieve both a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 and a minimum science GPA of 2.0. Students successfully completing the lower division major are automatically advanced to the upper division professional program.

3 credits of English composition

The writing course(s) you take depends on a variety of factors.  Consult an academic advisor to determine proper placement.

WRT 102 is required for entry into the program.

* Some students will need to complete WRT 101 before advancing to WRT 102

 

3 credits of Arts

Student selected art course that meets the ARTS general education requirement.

 

3 credits of Humanities

Student selected humanities course that meets the HUM general education requirement.

PHI 108 – Logical and Critical Reasoning

3 credits of introductory Social and Behavioral Sciences

Student selected introductory (100 level) social and behavioral science course that meets the SBS general education requirement. 

PSY 103 – Introduction to Psychology

3 credits of intermediate or higher Social and Behavioral Sciences

Student selected intermediate or higher (200 - 400 level) social and behavioral science course that meets the SBS+ general education requirement. 

PSY 220 – Survey in Developmental Psychology

3 credits of Statistics

 

 

AMS 102 - Elements of Statistics

or

AMS 110 - Probability and Statistics in the Life Sciences

Additional math courses are required as prerequisites for Chemistry and Physics

8 credits of Chemistry

The Chemistry sequence you take depends on the score you received on the Math Placement Examination.  You only need to take one of the sequences listed.

You must have a minimum score of 3 on the Math Placement Exam to start the Chemistry sequence.

If you received a score of 3 on the Math Placement Exam, take CHE 129/130/133, along with MAT 123; then take CHE 132/134, along with MAT 125.

If you received a score of 4 on the Math Placement Exam, take CHE 131/133, along with MAT 125; then take CHE 132/134, along with MAT 126.

You must complete the chemistry sequence first.
