Dr.Darren Kaufman is CFO of Port Jeff Medical Care, PC where he maintains a busy, full time private practice in nephrology and internal medicine. Prior to joining his current partners at Port Jeff Medical Care he was on the full time faculty of the SUNY at Stony Brook School of Medicine, where he continues to maintain an appointment as Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine.

Dr.Kaufman is board certified in both nephrology and internal medicine and he has earned an MS in Management and Policy at Stony Brook’s Harriman School of Management and Policy where he developed an interest in project management, operations management and finance. He has published articles on diverse topics including basic research into acid base physiology, oxygen free radicals, health care management, and, most recently, on a methodology for planning and tracking inpatient care using project management methodology.

Dr.Kaufman has taught and lectured to PA students in the program at SUNY Stony Brook for over 10 years and has worked with PA’s in his clinical practice. He has particular expertise and interest in the pathophysiology and management of hypertension, renal tubular acidosis and nephrolithiasis, as well as acid-base/fluid electrolyte disorders. In addition, he has great interest in clinical practice operations, and the integration of evidence based practice into the work flow of today’s busy physicians and PA’s.

In his leisure time Dr.Kaufman enjoys martial arts, weight lifting, reading and, most of all, spending time with his wife, son and daughter.
