Dr. DeChello received her Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Quinnipiac College in 1985, her Master of Science degree in Healthcare Management from Stony Brook University in 2004, and her post-professional Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Quinnipiac University in 2015. She has practiced clinically in a variety of settings including inpatient, outpatient, and acute care.  Additionally, she has practiced in specialty settings such as Hand Therapy and Work Hardening and holds a specialty certification in Ergonomics through the Board for Certification of Professional Ergonomists. Dr. DeChello also holds a national specialty certification in Aging in Place through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). She was the Associate Director of Occupational Therapy at Stony Brook University Hospital for 8 years before coming to the University as a faculty member in 1997.

Dr. DeChello is responsible for teaching a number of courses including Kinesiology, Prosthetic & Orthotics, Clinical Conditions, and Universal Design. Additionally, she lectures to students in other programs within the School of Health Professions on ergonomics and anatomy and physiology. Other responsibilities include mentoring students who are performing research projects in the areas of work injury prevention and adult physical disabilities. Dr. DeChello performs evaluations of the work environments of faculty and staff throughout the Health Sciences Center and through the Office of Equity and Access (OEA) to prevent work-related injuries and increase independence in work tasks. Dr. DeChello was a member of the Educational Technology Committee and Celebration/Awards Committee.
