Dr. Eric M. Lamberg joined the PT faculty at Stony Brook University in 2005 after working as a full-time faculty member in the Division of Physical Therapy at Long Island University.  Dr. Lamberg completed his doctorate in Movement Sciences with a specialization in Motor Learning and Motor Control at Columbia University, Teachers College, in 2005 after earning an MS in Physical Therapy in 1997 at Ithaca College.  Dr. Lamberg received specialization certification in Pedorthics (CPed) in 2005 to allow for a more in depth knowledge base of foot biomechanics, foot orthotics, shoes, and diabetic foot care. Dr. Lamberg received tenure as an Associate Professor in 2014, was named Interim Chair for the Department of Physical Therapy in July, 2015, and then appointed Chairperson in January, 2017.

Dr. Lamberg currently teaches Prosthetics and Orthotics in the Entry-Level DPT Program and serves as an advisor in the PhD in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Program.

Dr. Lamberg's current research focus has centered mainly in three areas: prosthetics, orthotics, and motor learning/motor control.  He is currently receiving funding to investigate the effects of decompressive knee braces in unilateral knee osteoarthritis, to investigate the use of novel socket technology with the transfemoral amputee, and to investigate the biomechanics of the lower extremity during squatting activities. Along with colleagues in the Department of Physical Therapy, Dr. Lamberg is studying the effects of dual-tasks on performance such as texting while walking or balance control.  Dr. Lamberg is also serving as a mentor in the PhD program for studies that are investigating lower limb prosthetic mass.

As a physical therapist, Dr. Lamberg works with many local clinics in a consultant role for his company, Next Step Rehab, PT, PC, which provides detailed, biomechanically oriented foot orthotic evaluations.

Outside of Stony Brook, Dr. Lamberg is very active in the community and has found a unique way to blend his love for soccer with his passion for research.  As such, Dr. Lamberg serves as the Head Coach for the US National Amputee Soccer Association (www.ampsoccer.org) and on the Board of Directors for the American Amputee Soccer Association. He led the national team that represented the USA in the Amputee World Cup, a tournament of 24 countries, that took place in December, 2014 in Culiacan, Mexico. Following that tournament, Team USA was ranked 12th in the world among national amputee men’s teams.
