Paramedic Application Process

Admission Policy:

The Paramedic Program will not discriminate in its admission policies on the basis of sex, race, national origin, religion, or sexual preference.


Candidates must complete both a Math and English assessment and achieve a 65% to be considered for the program. The assessment is provided by Platinum Testing at a cost of $5.00 and is hosted at Stony Brook University.

Admission is based on a personal interview with the program staff or staff member

At a minimum all candidates must:

  • 18 years of age and;
  • Driver's License and;
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent and;
  • Meet the technical standards for Paramedic;
  • Be a currently certified New York State EMT or AEMT and maintain throughout the length of the program.

Application documents include:

  • Academic History, which can include the transcript
  • Personal statement 
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Resume

Note: At the discretion of the program director, applicants who have completed an EMT program and are awaiting results may be provisionally admitted into the program. Students are responsible to maintain a valid New York State (A)EMT certification for the duration of the course.

The Minimum Expectations goal statement for the Paramedic program is to prepare entry-level paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.
