The clinical education component of the ATP allows students to learn through experience. Major emphasis is placed on the development of psychomotor skills in addition to cognitive knowledge. All students are required to fulfill their clinical education requirements under the direct supervision of a preceptor. Students are assessed by their preceptor on competencies and proficiencies established by the Professional Education Council of the National Athletic Trainers' Association. Students may be placed in a variety of settings including: college/university, high schools, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, and physician’s offices.
