Program Director, Clinical Assistant Professor
As a seasoned clinician, published scientist, and healthcare founder Dr. Williams describes himself as a ‘full-stack’ healthcare professional because he has developed the functional skills of a clinician, researcher, data engineer, and mentor. These skills allow him to thrive in new and untested settings of care.
As a researcher, his efforts have focused on behavioral change strategies for chronically ill populations. Dr. Williams pioneered one of the first remote mindfulness-based stress reduction programs that was tailored for persons living with SCD in North Carolina. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals like the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management and BMC-Trials. Related to funding, he has been awarded grants from the National Institutes of Health, as well as venture capital for the commercialization of digital therapeutic technologies.
Dr. Williams applies his academic research background within the commercial industry to help growth-stage companies determine acceptability, feasibility, and efficacy of novel care pathways, digital therapeutics, software solutions, and other business innovations that can enhance care delivery and outcomes for all. His clinical passion is behavioral health and chronic disease management. This passion has produced novel clinical work flows and innovations related to complex mental and physical conditions like chronic pain that have positively impacted thousands of high risk patient lives.
