Message from the Dean March 19, 2020

March 19, 2020

Dear SHTM Students,

First, I hope you and those dear to you are in good health. I know many of you have concerns about your education as we deal with this national crisis. I want to assure you that the administration and faculty are working very closely and tirelessly to make certain that you receive the education you expect from Stony Brook University. Most of you will be returning from Spring Break embarking on remote learning. For some, this will be a new experience, while for others, something you have done before. Either way, please know that the faculty, staff, and administration are here to support you.

The faculty will be communicating with you and offering you resources to ease any anxiety you may have about remote learning. We are urging you to take advantage of these resources and the guidance from faculty. For your own safety, and the safety of those around you, we are strongly recommending that you do not come to campus, unless absolutely necessary.

I want to remind you of the following information available regarding COVID-19:

  • For the most recent updates from Stony Brook University regarding COVID-19, please click here.
  • For FAQs regarding the virus, please click here.
  • For information from the CDC regarding COVID-19, including protection and preparation, please click here.
  • To help with anxiety, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is available to speak with students regarding their concerns. Students can call (631) 632-6720 to speak to a counselor 24/7. In addition, if students have specific concerns, they can contact the Student Support Team at student_supportteam@stonybrook.edu.  Another option is our “Let’s Talk” stations where counselors are positioned at various locations across campus. They can provide brief, informal and confidential conversations. The schedule can be accessed here.
  • For other assistance regarding the virus and your own health status, please call the Information Hotline at 632 5000.

I want to emphasize that your health and safety are very important to us, and we will continue to stay in communication with you over Spring Break to share any updates we have.  Please continue to check your stonybrook.edu email for updates from the School of Health Technology and Management as well as the University at-large.

Again, we are here to assist you with any concerns or issues you have, and invite you to reach out to us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
