Message from the Dean August 7, 2020

August 7. 2020

Dear Jessica,

I hope you are enjoying your summer, and you and yours are healthy and safe.  As we approach the start of the Fall 2020 semester, I want to share with you the following information:

University Libraries:

University Libraries continued to offer adjusted services and resources during the spring and summer with some limited on-site operations.  They are now prepared to expand on-site operations for Fall.

The following Library locations will be open in the Fall:

Melville Library: Central Reading Room, North Reading Room, Music Library
Health Sciences Library
Southampton Library

Please check the University Libraries website for hours of operation.

While physical library collections remain closed to in-person browsing, they are making available a paging service for all their circulating collections in all libraries, beginning August 1, 2020, in order to facilitate research, teaching, and learning. Please see the instructions below.

They are also continuing to offer limited interlibrary loan services. Please note that their ability to fill your requests depends on lending libraries' current adjusted policies due to COVID. Request form is here.

Instructions for requesting physical materials for pick up:

  • This service is available through the Libraries Search Catalog.
  • First, remember to sign in (see image below).
  • Then, search for the materials you’d like to request.
  • Once you click on an item’s location, (i.e. “Available at Main Library Stacks”), click on Request For Pick Up and then Send Request
  • Once your items are ready, you will receive an email to pick them up at the Central Reading Room between the hours of 11 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday. When the Fall semester begins, these additional pick-up locations will be available: North Reading Room (Melville Library), Health Sciences Library, Music Library, Southampton Library.
  • When picking up your materials, please remember to bring your SBU ID and a mask. Please contact circulation@stonybrook.edu if you have any questions.
